Your article resonated strongly with me. For years I worked closely with a highly sensitive woman, and it took me a long time to understand that she was not just "being difficult" when she refused to go to a loud restaurant or shied away from any other stimulating environment. She also gave me a special gift: Through her descriptions of her emotional state, I was able to understand a close family member much better.

As a society, we need to raise awareness of just how different we all are. We have made some progress on gender, race, and culture, and now we need to sharpen our understanding of different emotional states and appreciate them for what they are. This would support those who are neurodivergent by bolstering their strength to be at peace with themselves.
