You make an excellent point. Underdogs always have to perform better - and this includes not just Blacks but Black colleges as well (to the extent that a college can "perform"). As someone living in Germany, your sentiments remind me of those of a good friend of mine who grew up in East Germany and came to the West a few years before the Berlin Wall came down and Germany was subsequently reunited. When they came to the West, her father admonished her and her sister: "Remember, you have to be twice as good as everyone else, because you're from the East." She is one of the most capable, hard-working people I know - and yet this statement has plagued her throughout her life. Former East Germany still smarts at being perceived as second best and is often thought of as the "workbench" of former West Germany, as very few big companies are located there but draw labor and resources away from the East.
