This was shocking to read. I feel strongly that Americans should learn foreign languages - and here is evidence that they aren't even learning their own properly. For me, writing is part of a language. And if you haven't mastered your native language, you cannot learn a new one properly. I have met a few people here in Germany where I live who have limited education in their native tongues which makes it very hard for them to learn German.

I hope this trend reverses! It has been proven that writing, especially by hand, forces you to process thoughts. Do we really want to live in a world where AI does all the writing? I don't.
