This was an extremely interesting, fact-packed article. I have already noted several of the books you mention for future reading.

As an American living in Germany, I see many parallels between the way Americans are slowly working their way through their history of slavery and its enduring impact. Germany, despite being completely destroyed in WWII, still had Nazis (which for me is proof of how most people do not want to change, no matter what). It wasn't until the 1960s that Germany began a systematic reckoning with its Nazi past; before that, the occupying forces (the Americans, French and British) had a strong influence in running the country.

But these efforts were successful, even if they took longer than anyone would have imagined. Thus articles like yours are part of the ongoing reckoning in the U.S. We will get there!
