This is a great list. I also like the fact that communication is listed first. Even though I work in communication, I still catch myself making basic mistakes (making assumptions without asking, jumping to conclusions, not listening, etc.).
I would add here that many people do not even communicate with themselves -i.e., they are not even in touch with their own emotions. This can throw a wrench into the works of a relationship, requiring the partner to do extra legwork to help that person get in touch with their own feelings - so that they can communicate them.
This is part of what is meant with that expression that was so mysterious to me when I was a kid: "Marriage requires a lot of work." Yes, it sure does!
