Kudos to you for making the effort to teach in prisons! The U.S. has the highest incarceration rate in the Western world, a dubious honor. And as you point out, once a person is imprisoned, they are likely to land in jail once again after being released. The world makes it so hard for them to reintegrate. I hope that funding continues for this education program - and that more can be done to help prisoners navigate the system to be prepared for the outside world - before they are released.
I also wonder: does the U.S. look at what other countries are doing with their prisons? The Netherlands and Sweden notably put more emphasis on rehabilitation with some success. I hope that the people who have the power are not too proud to copy what someone else has done.
