Interesting article! I hadn't been aware of this gender bias but it doesn't surprise me. In Munich, Germany, where I live, there is a famous historic cemetery in the center of the old part of the city called the Alter Suedfriedhof. It was founded in the 14th century to bury the dead from the Black Death but has graves up into the 19th century. These latter graves are interesting for the names on the tombstones. In those days, a person's profession became part of their name - or more accurately, a man's title became part of his name, as in "Royal Baker Hans Schmidt." And his wife? "Mrs. Royal Baker Hans Schmidt." She didn't even get her name on her tombstone!
