As usual, very wise words. I found this point was well made in the book Committed by Elizabeth Gilbert (of Eat, Pray, Love fame). After getting remarried, she set out across the world to interview women of different cultures about their expectations of a husband.
Interviewing a woman of the Hmong, a culture steeped in tradition, she asked a woman if "she had a good husband." The woman wasn't even sure what she meant by that and just gave her a strange look.
The point is that particularly in the West, we often seek self-fulfillment from our partners, and generally expect way too much.
On top of that - who among us can really give an exact definition of the person who could make us happy?
