An American who has been living in Germany for over 30 years, I felt pretty much integrated until I had children and was subjected to the unforgiving Bavarian school system. Over the years I have witnessed political upheaval with the fall of the Berlin Wall, as well as the slower morphing of my family relationships in the U.S. My bilingual daughters, now in college, reflect the modern, multicultural Germany.
